Tottenham Hotspur’s midfield sensation, the English Dele Alli could be in the sights of Manchester City Manager, Pep Guardiola. According to comments by Spanish legend, Xavi Hernandez, Guardiola is on the lookout for top English talents for his squad with Alli one of the talented and exceptional ones who could make a difference in his team.
The young Englishman was awarded the PFA Young Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. It’s been revealed that Alli signed a new contract in September 2016, but Xavi believes that City have the money to price him away from Tottenham.
He said: “I speak to Pep and I know he thinks it’s important to sign English players,” Xavi told Spanish newspaper AS. “I’m certain that this summer he will look all over Europe to get players to improve the team. For the time being there is one English player who is one of the best in Europe and that is Dele Alli.
“He is a very special player. Technically, he is the type of player that Pep likes, the type of player that adapts to the style of play that Pep likes for his teams.
Xavi also added that Guardiola is interested in technical players like Dele Alli
“I’m certain that Tottenham will not let him leave but we know that Manchester City have great resources.”
Alli has been a key performer for Spurs this season, with significant impact on the side with the attacking numbers he has to his name. He has scored 20 goals in 44 appearances this season to enable Pochettino’s men to move to second place on the table, 4 points within reach of Chelsea.
City had signed other young Englishmen like Raheem Sterling and John Stones in recent years and might be pushed to make a move for Dele Alli although Tottenham have insisted they are not interested in letting any of their players leave.
