A new measure is being put in place in Sokoto to make sure intending husbands provide mosquito nets as criteria for getting married.
According to reports, mosquito nets will now be a part of the requirement on a bride price list and must be met before marriage is approved.
The law which is yet to be implemented in Sokoto State is aimed at making the procurement of the item compulsory.
Also, part of the law makes it compulsory for intending couple to undergo sickle cell gene test. They would be enrolled into a programme which would help them reduce the cost of medical treatment called state community contributory health scheme.
Balarabe Kakale who is the State Commissioner for Health stated that the measure was adopted to minimise the incidence disease in the Sokoto state.
Mr Kakale added that as part of the law intending couples must compulsorily undergo HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B test before they are formally married.

Before the law is enacted an enlightenment seminar will be held to clarify the stance of the law, culture, Islam on the issue of premarital testing.
