The General Manager of the National Theatre, Dr Stella Oyedepo died in an accident on Easter Monday on her way to Lagos.
The 65-year-old foremost Nigerian playwright was appointed as National Theatre General Manager in April 2018. She wrote over 300 plays in the course of her career as a playwright with 30 published for the public.
Some of her works include; ‘The Missing Ingredient’, ‘Brain Has No Gender’, ‘We Will’, ‘Survive’, ‘Rebellion of the Bumpy-Chested’ and ‘The Greatest Gift’ which was one of her highly acclaimed plays.
Oyedepo was an ex-director of the Kwara State Council for Arts and Culture. In 2001,she wrote ‘Brain Has No Gender’ for the Kwara State Ministry of Education for Women-in-science programme.
She was described in a report by J. Yeseibo as arguably one of the most visible practitioners of theatre in Nigeria.
