Reports have emerged that the family members of billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike aka Evans have insisted that they need to see him dispel fears of a possibility of his death. The demand was made by the family in light of the recent controversies that have sprung up over the whereabouts of Evans.
Reports were rife last week that Evans had allegedly gone missing from police custody in Lagos State. A claim which the police force has denied, saying that his location had been changed to enhance the investigation process.
However, Olukoya Ogungbeje, the lawyer of the notorious kingpin has revealed that the family of the alleged kidnapper is demanding that they have access to him and see him.
In an interview with The Sun, the lawyer disclosed that he was in possession of a written brief from the family of Evans, and also accused the police of frustrating the efforts being put in by Evans’ family to see him and ascertain if he is still alive. He also revealed that the police had sought a court order to approve the detention of Evans for three months after he had instituted a court action against his detention.
He said: “The police are only playing the ostrich. Do you know as his lawyer, I have been denied access to him, do you know that the father, his mother, his wife and children have been denied access to him?
“The police are not telling the truth. Why have they not published the court order they claimed to have got? Let them name the judge. They are only misinforming the public. They are not bold enough to publish the order. In short, they don’t have it.
“The police have been mischievous. There is more to it than meet the eye. The matter is in court and we should allow the court to handle the case and wait for the outcome of the matter”.
